Warm Up & Cool Down Routines: All Dog Sports

Help your dog perform their best and stay injury-free with sport-specific warm-up and cool-down routines. Whether you’re training for agility, obedience, FastCAT, or conformation, this course gives you clear, easy-to-follow exercises tailored to your sport. Build stronger, more focused dogs—and protect their long-term health—with just a few minutes before and after each session.

FROM SORE MUSCLES TO STRONG RECOVERIES

Without proper warm-ups and cool-downs, even well-trained dogs can end up stiff, sore, or sidelined. This course teaches you how to prepare your dog’s body for peak performance and help them recover safely after activity. With sport-specific routines, you’ll reduce injury risk, improve muscle function, and keep your canine athlete feeling strong and ready for more.

Sport Specific Routines

Agility isn’t the same as scentwork, and neither are their warm-up needs. This course gives you tailored routines for the demands of each sport—so your dog can perform better and stay safer.

Injury Prevention

Save your money on vet bills and avoid sitting on the sidelines. Learn how just a few minutes of targeted movement can protect joints, reduce soreness, and extend your dog’s competitive career.

Faster Recovery

A well-cooled-down dog bounces back quicker and stays focused for the next round. These routines help regulate heart rate, ease muscle tension, and set your dog up for long-term success.

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR

Michelle Shadwick

Hi, I’m Michelle, a Certified Canine Athlete Specialist, AKC Fit Dog Instructor, and Canine Good Citizen and Trick Dog Evaluator with over a decade of hands-on experience training dogs of all ages, sizes, and energy levels. I specialize in canine fitness and conditioning, with a background working with everything from energetic sport dogs to beloved senior pets. My mission is to help everyday dog owners understand the "why" and "how" behind keeping their dogs fit, healthy, and injury-free—starting with simple, safe exercises anyone can do.

As an educator, I believe learning should feel approachable and empowering—not overwhelming. I love breaking down canine fitness into clear, actionable steps that build your confidence and your dog’s skills at the same time. Whether I’m teaching in-person or online, I always aim to make training fun, supportive, and rooted in science-backed methods.

As a certified canine fitness coach and sport dog enthusiast, I’ve worked with dogs across agility, obedience, FastCAT, scentwork and more. I created this course after watching too many promising athletes struggle with preventable injuries and inconsistent performance—all because they skipped warm-ups or didn’t cool down properly. My goal is to give you simple, effective routines you can actually stick with, so your dog feels great, performs better, and stays in the game longer.

I’m so excited to welcome you to this class and help you kick off your dog’s fitness journey. Let’s build a stronger, healthier bond—one paw at a time!

Frequently Asked Questions

I already walk my dog before training—why do I need a separate warm-up?

Casual walking isn’t enough to prepare your dog’s muscles and joints for the demands of sport. This course teaches intentional, targeted movements that activate the right muscle groups and help prevent injuries.

I don’t have a lot of time on trial days. Will this take too long?

Each routine takes just 5–7 minutes and can be done ringside or in a small space. You’ll get quick, efficient steps that make a big impact without adding stress to your schedule.

Does this make a real difference?

Proper warm-ups and cool-downs are one of the easiest ways to improve performance and reduce injury risk—two things every sport handler wants. You’ll see the benefits in your dog’s focus, movement, and recovery.

My dog does multiple sports—will this work for us?

Absolutely! You’ll get sport-specific checklists plus tips for adjusting routines based on your sport and environment—so you’re covered no matter the event.

I have another question.
